I have never been in the bar after two in the afternoon. I stop in maybe three times a month for breakfast (kick-ass country skillet plus pitcher of amber bock will run you less than 10 bucks)I sit between farmers clad in denim overalls. I flirt with the doughy-eyed countenance of hippie Trina behind the bar. I listen to people’s stories. One flat screen is perennially attuned to ESPN. The other to country music videos. Every girl I have dated in the last six months I have taken to LAST CHANCE for breakfast. For me, this is the beauty of the bar, since I work thirds six days a week, driving into the early morning mist way out into the dip of the country for eggs and a beer..they always give you a ‘To go’ cup for yer java and like Tartan inn in west Peoria (Miss you wendy!!!!) they are one of the few bars I know of that will sell you a six pack when you leave. I’ll probably never saunter into the establishment at night but for me, the beauty of the bar is settling my tab after breakfast, flushing my beer into gulpy suds and then gatting back in my car, chain smoking, finding an ol’ country road to speed down and losing myself in the translucent haze of my reflection in windshield all the while wildly dreaming of the girl that got away …just doesn’t get much better than that….David Von Behrenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02867184248060411772noreply@blogger.com
